PhD PDF(Oxford), FRES
(London, U. K.)

Vice President (Plant Protection & Nutrients)

Contributions :

  • Successfully carried out the in vitro production of most virulent Indian isolate (MPKV HaNPV strain) in an insect cell line which can be utilized for the production of microbial biopesticide in vitro for the control of  H. armigera (has the potential of a patent).
  • Successfully transfected the SF-9 cell line with SlNPV DNA (MPKV Strain) and standardized the methodology for in vitro production of SlNPV through insect cell line culture.
  • Outstanding research studied at CEH, Oxford, UK; which led to “produce a highly purified in vitro preparation of baculovirus insecticide for use in the field for control of H. armigera”. This has been recognized as the success story of Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, UK in their 43rd Annual Report of Association of Commonwealth Universities, London, U. K.
  • Standardized the procedure for in vitro production of SlNPV and HaNPV in DBT Adhoc Project through insect cell culture, the first time in India which has the potential of the patent.
  • University Authorized Signatory to Obtain commercial license for Biopesticides Production. Obtained the registration for Five biopesticides Products of MKPV viz.Phule Tricho, Pseudo, Verti., Meta, and Beauveria from Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee (CIB & RC), Faridabad for commercial production and mass produced and sold out and also obtained the receipt of Rs. 1.10 Crores in Revolving Funds of Biocontrol Lab, Agricultural Entomology Section, MPKV, Rahuri.
  • DBT has sanctioned one Ad-hoc project on “In vitro production, of Nucleopolyhedrosis Virus of H. armigera and S. litura and its field efficiency in Western Maharashtra”.(23.02 Lakhs) during 2004-07.
  • First Record of the Parasitoid Acerophagus papayae in India in 2010.
